Is it possible to label, without altering cell viability, rat bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells with superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles and perfluorocarbon nanuemulsion formulations?
- SPIO-labelled cells are viable and MRI-detectable at all dilutions tested
- PFC-labelled cells are viable and MRS-detectable if >0.5 x 10^6
- Detection of MSCs might consider multimodal approaches including SPIO and PFC compounds
